Marshal Mannerheim

Marshal C.G.E. Mannerheim (1867-1951) was one of the most legendary Finns. He served as commander-in-chief in three wars and twice as head-of-state, making him a central influencer during the three first decades of independence. Standing along the street named after him, Mannerheim is sculpted riding his horse in one of Helsinki’s most recognisable memorials.

As a commemorative piece, Mannerheim’s statue is very traditional. What sort of statues grab your attention? What sort of memorials awaken emotions in you? Is there a statue that you deeply hate or love?
