Alexander II

1894
Walter Runeberg, Johannes Takanen

This memorial is packed with symbolism: the ruler is joined by pedestal figures representing Lex (law), Lux (light, meaning science and art), Pax (peace) and Labor (work). The figure symbolising law is the Maiden of Finland wearing a bearskin. The maiden was a significant symbol of liberty in the struggle towards independence.

What kind of a figure and way of thinking could best represent the Finland of today? Can you think of a real-life role model, or an imagined one? And what could be the accompanying side figures to suit your own persona?
